A popular music festival which has raised nearly £200,000 for local charity over the years is marking its 21st birthday this summer.
To celebrate the milestone, organisers of the Bures Music Festival are promising the “most exciting line-up yet”.
Running from July 5 to July 9, the festival which is staged in the village on the banks of the River Stour, will this year feature big-name acts such as Doctor and the Medics, best known for their number one hit single Spirit in the Sky. British Blues Awards winners King King, said to be the hottest thing in British blues rock, will also star.
Special guests also include chart-topping singer-songwriter Anna Pancaldi. And returning to headline the Big Top on Saturday night is stadium-touring Queen tribute act, Rhapsody, returning after sparking a sell-out night at Bures Music Festival in 2012.
Over the five days, the festival stages will welcome The Who tribute act Who’s Next and The Committed, who faithfully re-enact the soul sounds of the Commitments.
Suffolk-based ethereal pop-rock act Reno & Rome, acclaimed British blues guitarist Danny Bryant, premier tribute act ELO Encounter, alt-rock five-piece Broken Eyes and many more local rock, pop, blues, acoustic and jazz acts are lined up to perform.
There is still time for young solo artists or bands, aged from nine to 19, to sign up for the popular B-Fest young musicians’ competition to be held on Thursday, July 6. Meanwhile, organisers are working on the packed schedule of additional attractions and entertainment.
Every year, the festival raises thousands for valuable charities in the local community. Since it began in 1997, it has raised and distributed almost £200,000 to organisations including St Nicholas Hospice Care, St Helena hospice and Ferriers Barn.
Organiser Tom Moore said tickets are already selling fast.
“We’ve secured such a great line-up this year, and we’re delighted with the response to our 21st birthday event,” he said.
“It’s a long time for a volunteer run, not-for-profit festival to survive, and we’re extremely proud of the amount it has raised for good causes in that time.”
