Six fire engines were sent to a blaze at a refinery in Harwich this morning.

Crews from Dovercourt, Manningtree, Maldon and Colchester were sent to Refinery Road at about 11.15am after a small fire broke out in some pipes which were being repaired.

A small amount of residue gas in the pipes ignited near a tank containing 13,000,000 litres of water.

The fire was completely out by 11.41am.

A formation of Lynx helicopters made a stop at Wattisham Flying Station today to mark the end of the aircraft’s distinguished 40-year career with the British Army.
