A Woodbridge school pupil won the “golden ticket” to enjoy a screening of Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory at the new Film Feast Suffolk festival.

Running from October 5-7, the festival, whose main sponsor is the East of England Co-op, will showcase films, documentaries and short films from around the world, all on the subject of food and drink.

The spirit of Roald Dahl’s famous creation captivated Kyson Primary pupils as seven-year-old Reide Laws was announced as the “golden ticket” winner by headteacher Libby Brown during school assembly.

All pupils were given numbered tickets before assembly and a winning number was randomly selected to receive the prize of a family ticket to see the 1971 Gene Wilder classic, on October 6, at the Riverside Cinema, Woodbridge.

Lewis Upson, East of England Co-op community events co-ordinator, attended to congratulate the winner.

“It was absolutely magical to witness the children enthralled by the excitement of potentially holding the prized golden ticket, and I am sure Reide and his family will enjoy this wonderful film which has such enduring appeal,” explained Libby Brown.

East of England Co-op’s sponsorship of Film Feast Suffolk, which is being held at The Riverside in Woodbridge, highlights its ongoing commitment to supporting local communities. Pop up screenings will also take place at partner cafés in Woodbridge with the aim bringing the local community together through a love of fantastic food, film and drink.

The brainchild of local film advisor and researcher, Neil McGlone, the festival places particular importance on locally sourced food with meals from the feature films being recreated using local produce and served in local restaurants and cafés.

Oli Watts, head of communications and community at East of England Co-op, added: “This year marks our 150th birthday and supporting our local communities is something that has always been close to our hearts. It’s exciting for us to support a brand-new festival and a great opportunity to celebrate all the amazing local food and drink businesses right on our doorstep.”

Film Feast Suffolk will also host a Golden Ticket Treasure Hunt in Woodbridge, following the screening of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, on Saturday, October 6. Children will congregate outside The Riverside Theatre where they will be given a sheet of five clues to the locations of golden tickets hidden in the town. The winner will be announced on October 8 and they will receive a pass to The Riverside Theatre Kids’ Club running until June 2019.
