Wes Burns is ready for a break but has insisted ‘the best bunch of lads’ will be ready to attack the Championship next season.

The Welshman played a central role in Ipswich Town’s promotion to the second tier, which was celebrated by a crowd of more than 10,000 fans in Christchurch Park yesterday.

Following a week of celebrations, after promotion was secured against Exeter, the squad are off on a group holiday, with Burns proud to have shared the pitch with such a tight group of on and off pitch staff during a stunning season.

“I can’t describe it in words, really,” Burns said in a club interview, discussing his team-mates.

“They’re the best bunch of lads I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with – not just the lads in the changing room but the boss, the people in the canteen and the cleaners at the training ground. They’re top.

“There are a lot of us going away now, heading off on holiday in a few days’ time.

“So we’ll enjoy that together as a group and then everyone will have time away with their families to recharge. But everyone is ready to go next year.”

And as well as celebrating success with his colleagues, Burns was grateful to have the opportunity to thank the Town fans.

“To have so many people turn up in Christchurch Park, celebrating what a great season we’ve had, tops off the whole year really,” he said.

“I’m just glad we can celebrate together. That’s a massive part of it.

“There is not one person in the squad who doesn’t love going to the community visits or doing things off their own back. You can see what Fridge (George Edmundson) has done with the disability group this year and it’s really top drawer.

“It just goes to show how important this lot (the fan) are to us.”
