Former Ipswich Town defender Elliott Hewitt has helped Mansfield Town win promotion to League One. 

Nigel Clough's side were officially promoted following their 2-1 home win over Accrington Stanley last night to book their return to third tier for the first time since 2002/03.

The Stags have joined Stockport County and Wrexham who sealed their automatic promotions from League Two last weekend.

Hewitt has been at Mansfield since 2021, and was part of the sides who lost the 2022 League Two play-off final and fell short of the play-offs on goal difference last term.

The 29-year-old returned to action last month having spent nearly a year out with a cruciate knee ligament injury.

He has featured in their last four games as they sealed promotion after more than a decade in the fourth tier.

The Welshman joined Ipswich from Macclesfield Town for £250k in 2012, He went on to make 16 appearances for the Blues during his spell at Portman Road.
