Ipswich Town have been dealt a major blow with the news that midfielder Emyr Huws has been ruled out for the rest of the season following knee surgery.
The Welsh international – who was a £1m signing from Cardiff City this summer – sustained a tear to his cartilage during the 2-0 defeat at Middlesbrough last weekend and, after seeing a specialist, went under the surgeon’s knife today.
The 24-year-old has only recently returned to action after the opening four months of the campaign with a troublesome Achilles injury.

“Emyr has a complex tear of his lateral meniscus,” Town physio Matt Byard told the club website.
“It has been repaired and the average recovery period is around six months which means he will obviously miss the rest of the season.”
Town boss Mick McCarthy added: “It’s obviously very disappointing for us but even more so for Emyr. We know the quality he brings to the team and he will be missed.”
