Pope, released by Ipswich Town as a 16-year-old before plying his trade for Bury Town while at West Suffolk College, is one of three goalkeepers named by manager Gareth Southgate for this summer’s tournament.

As has been reported over the last 48-hours, experienced campaigner Joe Hart has not been included, with Burnley stopper Pope in the squad alongside Everton’s Jordan Pickford and Jack Butland of Stoke.

Having only made his Premier League debut in September, Pope has yet to win an international cap but was called into the squad for the first time for two friendlies in March.

He could make his England bow in two warm-up games prior to the tournament, with the Three Lions taking on Nigeria and Costa Rica before heading to Russia.
