Rating scale: 10 – world class display; 9- outstanding; 8- very good; 7 – good; 6 – decent; 5 – average; 4 – below average; 3 – poor; 2 – very poor; 1 – awful

Dean Gerken

Making his second start of the season in place of Bartosz Bialkowski, Gerken was perhaps the pick of the Ipswich Town players. Came out to try and narrow the angle for Bowen’s first goal but beaten by a clever finish. Fumbled a Fraizer Campbell shot which Knudsen eventually cleared but made two good stops after that. Had little chance with the second. 7

Jordan Spence

Had a fair game for much of the contest, getting forward to support Gwion Edwards, but got caught inside on a number of occasions. Completely switched off for the second goal, gifting Jackson Irvine the chance to end any hope of a comeback with a sloppy error of judgement. 4

Luke Chambers

Defended well in parts but switched off on a few occasions to lose possession and was turned as Hull looked to get Bowen in behind. He got back well in the second half to keep Bowen out with two good tackles, though. 5

Matthew Pennington

The pick of the Ipswich Town backline. Misjudged a couple of balls but comfortable all in all and did particularly well in possession. He has a real knack of shrugging off attackers when under pressure from behind. Couldn’t keep Bowen’s goal out as he raced back to clear off the line. 6

Jonas Knudsen

Almost made something happen from a dangerous, early throw but Chambers and Walters couldn’t connect. Got up and down despite having Bowen to handle, with the Hull man probably having the better of that battle. 5

Flynn Downes

In for a rare start as Hurst bolstered his central midfield, with the youngster taking a little while to get going. Lost possession for the first goal of the game but recovered well enough and came on stronger in the second half. 5

Cole Skuse

Showed no ill effects of the head injury which forced him off against Norwich and put his body in where hurts to defend in the first half. Had little forward momentum, though, with he and the rest of the Ipswich midfield not offering enough support to Jon Walters. 5

Jon Nolan

Largely anonymous during the first half and struggled to make a real impact in the final third, but did fire one shot over the bar in the first half. When he does get on the ball he looks comfortable in possession but needs to be involved higher up the pitch to make things happen. 4

Gwion Edwards

Limited time on ball but looked most likely to make something happen before being withdrawn. Delivered more crosses than usual and had one moment where he looked as if he was going to steal the ball away from the last defender and race through on goal – sadly it didn’t happen. 6

Jordan Graham

Was quiet for the first half an hour but came into the game late in first half. Looked fitter than he did against Norwich and had a couple of efforts at goal without looking like scoring. More to come. 6

Jon Walters

A thoroughly frustrating afternoon for the Republic of Ireland international. Isolated and feeding off scraps, he never had a sniff of goal and struggled to make things stick despite limited support. No shortage of effort, though. 5

Kayden Jackson (for Downes, 72)

Plenty of pace but little chance to use it. 5

Danny Rowe (for Edwards 79)

Great to see him back in the first team but little impact here. 5

Ellis Harrison (for Graham, 86)

Little time to make anything happen. 5
