The new listing, compiled by Archant Suffolk, publisher of titles including the East Anglian Daily Times, in patnership with a panel of key sponsors, recognises the “green” credentials of businesses from a comprehensive range of industry sectors across the county.

Speakers at the event, held at Wherstead Park, on the edge of Ipswich, included Steve Sharratt, chief executive of the Bio Group, entrepreneur William Kendall and Iain Dunnett, low carbon development manager at Suffolk Chamber of Commerce.

Mr Sharratt explained Bio Group’s partnership with Adnams to create an anaerobic digestion plant near Southwold which is now coverting waste from the brewing process and other organic waste into “green” gas for the national grid.

He said such partnerships were key to the development of a low carbon economy and Bio Group planned to have 25 plants operating in five years time.

Mr Sharratt also highlighted the role of the New Anglia Local Enterpise Partnership as the Government’s “green patherfinder”, with the LEP’s “manifesto” for the low carbon economy nearing completion.

Sponsors of the Anglian Business Green 100 include Adnams, Birketts, EDF Energy, Green Call and Suffolk Chamber of Commerce.

Full details of the listing will appear in a special supplement within the East Anglian Daily Times on Tuesday, May 15, and will also be available online.
