LIVERPOOL Captain Steven Gerrard has brandished Joe Cole as being better than current World Player of the year Lionel Messi.
Speaking to Match of the Day magazine, Gerrad said: “(Lionel) Messi can do some amazing things, but anything he can do Joe can do as well, if not better.”
The England captain hopes that Liverpool are set for a bright future under new manager Roy Hodgson, and forget the “horror” of last season, hoping his international team-mate can drive the team forward.
“I really fancy Joe for the player of the year award this season. He used to shock us in training by doing footy tricks with a golf ball that most players can’t even do with a football”
