LIVERPOOL midifelder Javier Mascherano has confirmed that he wishes to leave Liverpool and has been linked with a possible move to European champions Inter Milan.
He told new Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson yesterday that “I’m off”, and holding on to him always seemed unlikely as he failed to make contact with the manager several times after finishing the World Cup.
The loss will come as a blow to the Englishman who was boosted last week with the arrival of Joe Cole and Steven Gerrard’s firm commitment to the club.
But if the reported 25million price tag lined up by Inter Milan surfaces, then Hodgson will have the money to spend on a like-for-like replacement and a left-back.
With fellow Argentinians Javier Zanetti, Esteban Cambiasso and Diego Milito playing for Inter, it would be a suitable move both on and off the pitch for the tough-tackling midfielder.
