A 13-year-old boy was taken to hospital after being pulled from the moat at Framlingham Castle.

Fire crews were called around noon today following reports that a teenager had become stuck in the moat and needed help getting out of the moat.

A spokesman for Suffolk Fire and Rescue said the boy was treated for head injuries and was left in the charge of the ambulance service.

The East of England Ambulance Service helped to retrieve the youngster.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 11.58am with reports of a person who had fallen in Castle Street, Framlingham.

"One person was taken to Ipswich Hospital by land ambulance for further care.

"We sent an ambulance, ambulance officer, community first responder and East Anglian Air Ambulance."

A Framlingham Castle spokesman said: "We are aware of an incident which took place in the dry moat along the public footpath outside of Framlingham Castle.

"Our staff offered immediate assistance while the members of the public involved waited for the emergency services to attend."
