AN Ipswich bar is set to bring an exotic twist to the town with the launch of a gentleman's night following a massive £400,000 refurbishment.
Curve Bar, in Princes Street, will host a weekly exotic dance night, to be known as Curves, featuring women entertaining clients with pole-dancing and podium-dancing routines.
Annamaya Salter, a member of the Curve management team, said the venue is keen that the event, which will be held from 7pm every Thursday, is a “sophisticated and classy” affair.
She said the management has collaborated with consultants associated with similar venues in London to ensure the event is a success.
She added: “We like to call it corporate entertainment and we have had a lot of support from local businesses.
“The owner has held a licence for this for three years but nothing had been done about it until now.
“We have taken the decision because of consumer demand. There is a lot of interest in it and we have used contacts in London to make sure everything is done properly.”
Dancers in the main areas will remain clothed although the venue has been granted a fully-nude licence for exotic dances within curtained booth areas.
Ms Salter added that the venue was yet to encounter opposition to the idea and moved to allay fears it could be seen as seedy.
She said: “Local businesses have been very supportive and we have had a lot of good feedback.
“We haven't had anyone yet come to us and try to oppose the decision.
“This kind of industry can be seen as seedy but we are a classy and sophisticated venue.”
Curve Bar will continue to be a regular bar throughout the rest of the week
Curve dancers will also be taking part in a charity car wash in aid of St Elizabeth Hospice outside the venue on Saturday.
