TRAVELLERS heading to and from London from Ipswich this evening are being delayed by up to 30 minutes after a flock of sheep ventured onto the line.
A driver spotted the animals on the track between Marks Tey and Colchester at 5pm.
They were ushered off the line by a farmer and rail officials by 5.30pm but a National Express East Anglia spokesman said he didn't expect services to catch up to timetable until 7pm.
Jonathan Denby, head of corporate affairs for the operator, said: “After 30 minutes trains started running again but we have had no cancellations and trains have just been delayed by up to 30 minutes.
“For the south-bound traffic the impact will not be as bad.”
He added: “We are sorry for any inconvenience this has caused our customers but this was not an industry problem and between ourselves and the farmer we have managed to remove them as quickly as possible.”
