POLICE are today searching for thieves who broke into Marks and Spencer in Ipswich, forcing tills open, and stole a safe from a bakery.

Between 6pm last night and 12.15am today, Bakers Oven in Upper Brook Street was targeted by robbers who got in via the back door and stole a safe, which had to be dragged down from the first floor.

At 3.30am it was discovered that another shop in the town centre had also been hit by thieves who used an iron grid from a drain to smash the fully glazed security doors at the back of Marks and Spencer in Westgate Street.

They then raided a number of tills and stole cash, which was all in coins.

A Suffolk Police spokesman said: “These were two quite brazen burglaries in two premises in the town centre. It is possible they are linked.

“Any witnesses should call the police number on 01473 613500.”
