BARACK Obama has made history as the first black presidential nominee for a major US party - and pledged to being “bring a new and better day to America”.
The 46-year-old claimed victory over bitter rival Hilary Clinton after a long and hard fought battle to become the presidential candidate for the Democratic Party.
He will now face Republican John McCain in November's general election to decide who will be the 44th president of the United States.
