The first accident, between a 44-tonne lorry carrying steel rods and a car, took place at 9.30am near Swavesey in Cambridgeshire on the Ipswich-bound carriageway.
One lane was temporarily closed while the vehicles were recovered.
Then, shortly before 10am, a second collision, again between a lorry and a car, took place on the Ipswich-bound stretch of the road at Fenstanton in Cambridgeshire, causing further hold-ups.
