FIREFIGHTERS battled for more than two hours to control a blaze engulfing the roof of a house in a Suffolk village early today.

FIREFIGHTERS battled for more than two hours to control a blaze engulfing the roof of a house in a Suffolk village early today.

Crews were called to a home in Chedburgh Road, Whepstead, at about 1.20am after fire took hold in the roof of the property.

In total four appliances attended the scene and four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used three hose reels and a 45mm jet to tackle the flames.

A turntable ladder was also used.

The fire was under control by 3.50am.
