A TEENAGER has suffered serious leg injuries after he was struck by a car following an earlier accident.

The 16-year-old was in a red Rover 214 travelling towards Chelmsford on the A131 at Great Leighs when the crash happened at about 9.20pm on Thursday.

Police believe the Rover struck the central reservation before the youngster climbed out and was struck by a blue Peugeot 406 being driven by a Braintree woman.

Four men were taken by ambulance to Chelmsford's Broomfield Hospital but the teenager was later transferred to the Royal Free Hospital in London.

A police spokeswoman said last night that the teenager's head injuries were not as serious as first feared, but confirmed his leg was badly damaged in the second accident.

Anyone who witnessed the collisions should call Chelmsford road police on 01245 240600.
