IPSWICH Town defender Alex Bruce played the full 90 minutes as he skippered the Republic of Ireland in a 1-1 draw against Scotland in the B international at Airdrie last night.
Town team-mate Jon Walters, making his first appearance at this level, played 62 minutes before being substituted in what was his first international appearance since scoring twice for the Under-21 side against Switzerland in 2004.
Republic of Ireland coach Pat Devlin was delighted with his side's display.
“I'm very, very pleased with the outcome - some of the lads were fantastic,” he said.
“We got them all on and that was the most important thing, but from a result point of view it was disappointing to lose the goal.”
Meanwhile, Ipswich Town goalkeeper Shane Supple was on the bench as the Republic of Ireland Under-21 side defeated Bulgaria 1-0 in a European Championship qualifier.
