WHEN his step daughter needed treatment from a specialist centre, little did an Ipswich man know it would lead to him taking on a mountain of a challenge.

Matt Dare's stepdaughter Megan has cerebral palsy and last year the Government paid for her to spend two weeks at the Bobath Centre in London.

Ever since then Mr Dare, of Cornflower Close, Ipswich, has been looking to find a way of raising the money to send her again, this time privately, and to repay the rehabilitation hospital for the help they offered the seven-year-old.

He has now decided to strap on his walking boots for a trek to the Everest base camp at the start of next year, which will see him climb up to 19,000ft.

Mr Dare, 33, said: “When Megan visited the Bobath centre we were blown away by the levels of dedication and devotion that she received from the staff at the centre.

“We wanted to repay them in some way and are now hoping to raise £10,000.”

Mr Dare will undertake the challenge in February next year. Before then, however, he is planning to carry out a number of car boot sales to further enhance the fund.

The fire alarm engineer has already raised £1,500 but hopes to add even more over the coming months.
