THE father of a little boy killed in a horrific accident has paid tribute to his “really smiley lad”.

Four-year-old Cory Ciesielski died from serious head injuries after he was crushed against the wall of a house by a car in Birmingham at Easter.

The youngster was due to start St Nicholas' primary school, in his home village of Tillingham, near Maldon, at the beginning of this term.

At the time of the crash he was spending the Easter holidays with his father, Jason, who is separated from Cory's mother, Wendie , and lives in Birmingham, and his 14-year-old brother, Daniel.

Daniel and Cory were walking to the park when a blue Renault Laguna was in collision with the two boys on April 13.

Cory was crushed against the wall of a house by the car. He suffered terrible head injuries.

He was taken to Birmingham Children's Hospital, where he battled to live, in a critical condition, until doctors advised his parents to switch off his ventilator. He died peacefully over 12 hours later with his family on April 27.

Mr Ciesielski said all of the little boy's tubes were taken out and they were able to have a “nice cuddle”. Daniel survived the accident with only a few bumps and scrapes.

Mr Ciesielski, paying tribute to his youngest son, said: “He was a typical boy, always climbing. He was into Spiderman and Power Rangers. He was a really smiley lad. He was confident.

“He had a great sense of humour, which was really fantastic from an early age.”

He added: “He was into everything. He was well behaved, but cheeky.”

Mr Ciesielski said he and Cory's mother, Wendie, are “quite positive people”. But he added: “Some things just catch you out. We saw his new school shoes which he hasn't worn, and it breaks your heart.”

“He was long overdue going to school. He was more than ready for it. It's sad he didn't get to go to school.”

Mr Ciesielski said staff at Birmingham Children's Hospital were fantastic and brilliant.

Cory's funeral is due to be held at St Nicholas' church, Tillingham, on Tuesday .

Mr Ciesielski said: “We're going to get photographs, memory cards and music, and try and make it a celebration of his life.”

West Midlands Police arrested a 49-year-old man in connection with the incident on suspicion of dangerous driving. He was released on police bail until June while inquiries continue.
