SUFFOLK Police last night released a man who had been arrested after the body of a woman was found in Ipswich.

Police officers were called to an address in Clarence Road at about 8.20am yesterday and found the woman's body at the house.

They originally treated the death as suspicious and a 56-year-old man was arrested in relation to the incident.

But last night a police spokeswoman said a post-mortem carried out by a Home Office pathologist showed the woman had died of natural causes and as a result the man had been released from custody.

She added: “A post mortem was carried out on the woman who was found deceased at an address in Clarence Road, Ipswich.

“The results showed that she died of natural causes. A 56-year-old man who was arrested has been released with no further police action.”

An area of Clarence Road was quickly cordoned off yesterday morning as an investigation into the death got under way and scenes of crime officers moved in to begin a forensic examination.

The normally quiet street was transformed into the scene of a major police investigation as officers worked to uncover the circumstances surrounding the woman's death.

The investigation centred on a semi-detached house at the end of Clarence Road where her body was found.

Two police officers were stationed outside the house and police tape cordoned off the driveway while the investigation inside started.

Neighbours told how they saw a police car and ambulance arrive at the house early yesterday morning.

A police spokesman said they were still in the process of identifying the dead woman and no more information would be released until her next of kin had been informed.
