COUNCIL tax next year should not rise by more than the rate of inflation, according to the Government after it announced higher than expected support for local authorities.
Suffolk county council will get an extra 6.8% from the Treasury to pay for services, while Essex receives 6%. Essex fire and rescue service will receive 4.5%, and both Essex and Suffolk Police Authorities have been given an extra 3.8%
Districts councils set to benefit include Tendring – up 4.2% – and Babergh, which receives 6% more.
Losers are Forest Heath, which will only benefit from an increase of 2.5%, and Colchester, whose increase is 2.5%.
Councils will set their budget in January and any council tax increase will take effect from April.
