THE Conservatives have gained a seat from the Liberal Democrats in the Rayne division of Braintree district council in a by-election caused by the death of sitting councillor Tony Meadows.

THE Conservatives have gained a seat from the Liberal Democrats in the Rayne division of Braintree district council in a by-election caused by the death of sitting councillor Tony Meadows.
There was a swing of 2.2% to the Tories, enough to see Michael Banthorpe elected with a majority of 17.
The full result was: Michael Banthorpe (Con) 289 votes, Joanne Fish (Lib Dem) 272, Wendy Partridge (Green) 23. Turnout: 34.27%.
The result in by-election to Silver End parish council was: Roy Lane (no party indicated) 140, Paul Dear (Labour) 119, Ashley Final (Lib Dem) 73. Majority 21. Turnout: 12.23%.
