THERE can be no better present than having a baby on Christmas Day – and four East Anglian families were lucky enough to receive very special gifts.

At Ipswich Hospital, proud parents Lisa and Abdul Azzu were blessed with the arrival of their first child, Yasmin, at 6.39am yesterday.

The tot, who weighed 6lbs 1oz when she was born, was whisked home to Rendlesham for a double celebration with her family.

Lisa, 28, said: "It's lovely. She is the best present ever. It's a real bonus that we could go home on Christmas day as well. Yasmin has had loads of presents and we've had great fun opening them all – both Christmas and birthday gifts."

Meanwhile, little Elliott Delbrouque was born just over half an hour later to delighted parents Marie-Claire Tischler and Alex Delbrouque, of Yoxford.

The couple's bundle of festive joy is their first child and weighed 7lbs 4oz when he finally arrived – two weeks after he was due.

Marie-Claire, who was induced on Christmas Eve, said: " He hung on for as long as he could before being born. It was lovely. At first, we thought that we didn't want his birthday to be on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day but in the end we were so glad that he was finally here.

"It was a lovely morning. We feel pretty special."

First-time mum Lucy Boardman received more than she bargained for after Connor Glen arrived two weeks early weighing just 5lb 4oz, when he was born shortly after 8.30am yesterday.

Both Ms Boardman, 18, and her partner Matthew Cobbold, 22, were nevertheless delighted with the newest addition to their household, despite a difficult labour which lasted throughout Christmas Eve night.

Young Connor was induced at around 7pm on Wednesday evening, with Ms Boardman's waters breaking around three-and-a-half hours later.

"Connor was not due until January 7, so Christmas Day was very different to what I was expecting," said Ms Boardman, who lives in Mildenhall with Mr Cobbold and gave birth at the West Suffolk Hospital.

"We were supposed to be visiting our parents to open presents and have a meal cooked for us, but obviously none of that happened in the end and we had a hospital dinner instead."

"Connor was the only boy's name we could agree on, as we had some differences of opinion," said Mr Cobbold. "And we chose Glen as a middle name after a friend of mine who died in a car crash."

The proud parents are overjoyed with their newest arrival and are already planing for Connor's future birthdays.

"We were discussing his birthday, and we will may split the day in future, having Christmas in the morning and Connor's birthday after lunch," added Ms Boardman. "The other idea is to have a second birthday for him, on June 25, so he can celebrate the two six months apart."

Although Connor was born slightly underweight, the couple hope to take him home today.

"It was a bit of a shock that Connor was born on Christmas Day. Our next child will probably be born at Halloween," joked Mr Cobbold.

At Colchester General Hospital, proud mum KayleanneTurnbull, 17, and dad Chris Clark, 19, were delighted with the arrival of their son Jordan.

The pair, from Shrub End, glowed with pride as they doted over their first baby, who weighed in at 6lbs 2oz and was born just 40 minutes into Christmas Day.

"I feel so happy," said Kayleanne as she held Jordan. "She's fine. It's fantastic. I feel very special indeed."

"I am over the moon," said Chris, a tarmaccer. "He is unbelievable."
