A MARRIED father-of-two will appear before magistrates today after police charged him with a number of sexual offences.

Paul King, 37, of Mayflower Way, Ongar, is due to appear at Colchester Magistrates' Court this morning.

He was charged at the weekend with indecent assault on a woman in Chelmsford on September 29 last year and the attempted rape of a woman in Colchester on October 10 last year.

The first charge relates to an incident in Chelmsford in which a 30-year-old woman was allegedly indecent assaulted as she walked home from the gym on the footpath linking Waterhouse Lane and Seymour Street at 5.30pm on September 29.

The second charge relates to an incident in the Lexden area of Colchester in which a 19-year-old woman was allegedly subjected to an attempted rape on October 10 just after midnight on a footpath known as Bluebottle Grove.

Detectives working on Operation Telford spent the weekend questioning King after he went voluntarily with his solicitor to Colchester police station on Friday afternoon.

He was charged late on Saturday night after police successfully applied for an extension to their arrest warrant and he was remanded in custody until his appearance before the magistrates' court today.

Operation Telford was launched last autumn from its base in Stanway and involved a team of more than 20 officers, headed by Detective Superintindent Gareth Wilson.
