MORE volunteers are needed to help people hit by crime in north Suffolk.

Victim Support is currently looking for volunteers to help with its work in all areas of north Suffolk, including Halesworth, Southwold, Beccles, Bungay and Lowestoft.

Its co-ordinator, Susan Harte, said: "Victim Support is committed to providing people affected by crime with emotional and practical support.

"We provide the only free, confidential and independent service that exists to help the victims of crime."

The work of the group is highly-valued by both the public and many organisations, including Age Concern, Citizens Advice Bureau and Suffolk police.

"Unfortunately, our group is suffering its own crisis due to a lack of good, dedicated and committed volunteers," said Ms Harte.

Potential volunteers must be willing to undertake a comprehensive training course and become one of the team who provide a quality service to those who turn to the group for support.

"Victim Support volunteers come from all walks of life. What unites them is an interest in people and a desire to help those affected by crime," said Ms Harte.

The next training course starts at the end of this month. The training programme covers a number of areas including the effects of crime on victims, listening skills, court procedures and compensation.

Anyone interested if finding out more about becoming a Victim Support volunteer should contact Susan Harte on 01502 584105.
