A fifth person has been charged with murder in connection with the death of Tavis Spencer-Aitkens.

Leon Glasgow, 41, of no fixed abode, was charged on Tuesday August 28 with murder and has been remanded to appear before Suffolk Magistrates Court in Ipswich on Thursday August 30.

Mr Spencer-Aitkens, 17, of Pownall Road, died after he was fatally wounded in Packard Avenue, Ipswich, on June 2.

A post mortem examination had heard provisionally that his death was caused by a stab wound to the heart, but the inquest into Mr Spencer-Aitkens death has been adjourned as a result of the ongoing criminal proceedings.

Since his death, family and friends have mobilised in a show of solidarity, leading an knife amnesty in the teenager’s name and opening his funeral up to hundreds of people who wished to pay their respects.

District councillors have invested time and money in the Nacton area of Ipswich, opening the Nansen Road Community Centre at the start of the summer and providing free sports and activities to keep children busy during the school holidays.

There have also been public meetings for officials to hear directly from residents what they want to see addressed in their community and an increased police presence in the area.

In June, 22-year-old Aristote Yenge, from Ipswich, and a 16-year-old boy from Colchester, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were both charged with murder, along with Callum Platts, 23, of no fixed abode.

Adebayo Amusa, of Sovereign Road, Barking, was charged with murder in July.

An 18-year-old man arrested in early June on suspicion of conspiracy to murder is due to answer bail on Thursday August 30.

A 20-year-old man, also arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder, has been rebailed until September 4.

Suffolk Constabulary are continuing to appeal for information about the murder, especially anyone who witnessed the attack or anything suspicious in the area immediately prior to it or directly afterwards.
