The area has undergone significant change in the past 15 years and work has just got underway on the eyesore ‘Winerack’ building, which will change the landscape once more.

The docks are still an important gateway to the town and several large businesses are still based on the Waterfront alongside the University of Suffolk, student accommodation, luxury residences and cafes and restaurants.

These photos were taken during the Ipswich Sea Cadets Regatta when members showcased their skills in sailing, rowing and boat handling.

The first Sea Cadet unit was established in 1854 at Whitstable in Kent, to give youngsters a chance to learn naval skills.

Traditionally old seafarers provided training while local businessmen funded the Unit Headquarters. The movement continues today with 400 HQs across the UK.
