The unusual fitness activity will be part of a fitness festival taking place at Trinity Park this weekend.

The Yoga class is run by Diana Malone who got the idea from the states, she said:

“A lady in the states had a few goats and when she was going through troubling times she realised the only time she felt good was when she was with the goats. So we combined the two - yoga is calming and connecting anyway and so are animals.

“The goats have such a wonderful interaction with humans they don’t run away they run to you for interaction and affection.”

On average ten goats are used per session but it depends on how many participants there are.

Diana Malone, who has been running the course for two years, added:

“We use the goats as they help core strength as you need to brace if they need to jump. Goats love it and know who I am and know who our regular people are.”

It is possible that the goats will need to release their bodily functions during a class.

Diana Malone said: “The goats will warn you before they do it by how they squat/move, it is normally just the mats that are affected and not people.

“We are prepared with wet wipes and spare mats. We just ask people with long hair to tie it back so the goat doesn’t think it is grass.”

The Goat Yoga will be part of a brand-new fitness festival called Fit East. It will take place on Saturday, July 14, and will welcome all ranges of abilities, from beginners to fitness fanatics.

The festival will feature four arenas all packed with exciting events and classes.
