Muslims in Ipswich are inviting the community to join them in a fast-breaking event as part of their Ramadan commemorations.
The Grand Iftar is organised by the Shahjalal Islamic Centre and Masjid and will take place at 15 Argyle Street on May 22 from 7pm to 9.30pm.
Money will be raised for charity Families In Need (FIND), which supports people in Ipswich experiencing poverty through initiatives such as a foodbank.
Main organiser, Idris Ali, is hoping to attract around 250-300 members of the public to join special guests including the mayor of Ipswich.
“We just want to break the barriers,” he added.
“We want to be part of the community and in the holy month of Ramadan we would like to invite everyone to join us in a wonderful three-course meal and have fun and enjoy the evening – that’s the whole reason why we are doing this and also we are raising money for FIND.”
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar when Muslims do not eat or drink from dawn until sunset.
