Free first aid courses are being offered in Ipswich to show people how to save a baby’s life.

The programme is designed for new parents and grandparents and will cover basic life support as well prevention and diagnosis skills.

The project is being led by Ipswich Borough Council.

Andrew Wilesmith, the authority’s sport and leisure services manager, said: “Life-saving and first aid skills are so important, as they could save a life.

“Things like choking can happen at any time and we want to prepare people to be able to deal with these situations.

“Hopefully, people will take part in these sessions and get the confidence to do a first aid course, which can make such a difference.”

Sessions will take place at Whitton Sports Centre on May 17 and at Gainsborough Sports Centre on May 24, both between 9.30am and 11am.

People must book a place by calling 01473 433655.
