Suffolk police are linking an assault and a robbery in Ipswich where the victims were set upon by a gang of men.

The first assault took place at around 12.45am on Saturday, December 9, in Burrell Road when a man in his 40s, who had just arrived on a train from London, was attacked by a group of four men.

They attempted to pull at his laptop bag and take his mobile phone.

The victim suffered cuts to his nose and left ear.

The robbery happened in on the same day between 10pm and 10.50pm in Princes Street.

A man in his late 30s was walking into town when he got into an amicable conversation with a group of three men he didn’t know.

They then assaulted him, causing him to fall to the floor.

He then noticed his phone, cash, keys and bank cards were missing.

The victim suffered a cut to the head, a bruised eye and soreness to his ribs.

Police are linking the two incidents and ask anyone with information to contact Ipswich police on 101 quoting 37/78446/17 for the first incident and 37/78535/17.
