Our Throwback Thursday series continues, this week looking back to November 1983 and featuring Hot Chocolate, the opening of Whitton Sports Centre and fireworks at Christchurch Park.

The Gaumont played host to British soul band Hot Chocolate, most famous for their song You Sexy Thing, who drew in a large crowd at the town centre venue.

Of course, it is the month of Guy Fawkes Night, and the annual firework display was held at Christchurch Park. A huge crowd of adults and children turned out, with the event set to draw in hundreds of spectators again this Saturday.

Novemeber 1983 also saw the opening of Whitton Sports Centre. To mark the occasion, the mayor unveiled a plaque and adults and children enjoyed the games there were had at the newly opened facility.

Last but by no means least this week, The Dove Street Inn hosted a conker championship.
