The Buttermarket has been open 25 years in the Ipswich Town centre which has since seen many changes and complete refurbishment during it’s time.
This year the Buttermarket shopping celebrated its 25th anniversary since opening in the town.
In that time, the centre has seen many years, including most recently having undergone a complete revamp and refurbishment to bring the Empire cinema and a host of restaurants to the town.
We look back to when then Mayor of Ipswich Ken Wilson was given a tour around the shopping centre as it was being built, seeing how the building looked whilst it was taking shape in December 1991.
Fast forward to October 1992 and the doors were officially opened for the first time to the general public, comprising of four floors and costing a total of around £64million to build.
The Buttermarket would go on to look this way for 24 years before renovation began with the removal of the glass from the rotunda entrance in 2016.
