Water sports took centre stage at Ipswich docks for a day in 1989 as the town hosted Oyster World’s Water Scene event.
A wide range of activities were on offer for participants of all ages, from kayaking and windsurfing to boat sailing and jet skiing.
These pictures taken on the day show the changing face of the town’s waterfront area, at a time when The Malt Kiln was the only part of Isaac Lord’s to be open as a bar to the public, and before The Marlborough Hotel, which later became The Salthouse Harbour Hotel, had moved into the John Good warehouse.
The waterfront is now a popular place to hold public events such as this, with the annual maritime festival among the festivities in the town’s calendar for the area.
