Britain’s biggest Euromillions jackpot is up for grabs tomorrow night - could you be joining Suffolk’s big lottery winners?
The giant money pot stands at £168 million, meaning if it is collected by a single winner they will be the UK and European record holder for a lottery scoop.
Suffolk has seen its fair share of winners over the years, including Haverhill couple Adrian and Gillian Bayford who won a whopping £148 million on a Euromillions draw in 2012.
More recently Martin Crichton from Boxford won a £1 million Euromillions prize – although he didn’t pick up his cash for more than a month.
The 44-year-old groundskeeper had forgotten to check his ticket and only looked in his wallet after reading an appeal for the winner to come forward.
Other Suffolk winners include ten Co-Op workers in Great Bardfield who in March 2013 split a £2.4 million jackpot between them and Jean Swatman, a grandmother-of-six from Lowestoft, who scooped the £2m Lotto jackpot the same year after buying a lucky dip ticket.
Richard and Cathy Brown were two days into a sailing trip around Britain when they found out about their £6 million lottery win.
The former Archant employees from Ipswich returned home after checking their numbers online.
In December 2010, supermarket worker Sue Stebbings from Lowestoft took home a £5.6m share of a double Lotto rollover.
According to The Sunday Times Rich List 2017, if one winner scooped tomorrow night’s entire £168 million jackpot, they would be ranked the joint 671st richest person in the UK.
This would match the fortunes of Eric Clapton (£170m), Sir Rod Stewart (£170m) and Sir Tom Jones (160m).
Andy Carter, the National Lottery’s senior winners adviser, said tonight’s jackpot was a life-changing amount of money.
“This is one of the biggest draws we have ever seen,” he said.
“Make sure you get your ticket well before the draw closes, either online or at a retailer.
“The extraordinary sum would be life-changing for the winner or winners and we have plenty of champagne on ice ready to celebrate.
“It would enable them to transform their life, as well as the lives of their friends and family, and we are poised to support them from the moment they claim.”
