Firefighters have confirmed that reports of a flat fire on Ipswich Waterfront were a false alarm, after as many as nine fire engines were called.
Suffolk Fire and Rescue was called shortly after 7.30pm to a block of flats in Vernon Street, where a flat fire with one person possibly trapped was reported.
A strong response of multiple fire engines were called, but a fire service spokesman said it was a defect with a boiler alarm and there had been no fire.
Up to nine fire crews were called, according to the fire service’s live incident page, although it is understood that not all attended once it was confirmed there had been no fire.
All crews had left the scene by 8.30pm.
