A colourful floral display has been laid out in an Ipswich park to mark 100 years since the formation of a social club for nurses.
The centenary feature for East Suffolk Nurses’ League will be in place at Christchurch Park’s arboretum for the rest of the year and was organised by 102-year-old Lilian Caudle, who has been a member since 1943 and has edited the group’s journal since 1974.
When asked why the league is still going strong after 10 decades, 67-year-old member Sue Scotchmere, who was a nurse from 1968 to 2014, said: “I think the thing about nursing is people take a lot of pride in it, so that’s one of the things that keeps us together.”
Mrs Scotchmere worked within surgery and she said she enjoyed looking after patients and their families, as well as supporting the other staff.
East Suffolk Nurses’ League, which has around 250 members, holds a reunion once a year.
