Real or fake? That’s the question Ipswich crowds may be asking when they turn out for a festival formed entirely of tribute acts.
The Ipswich Fake Festival is coming to Christchurch Park for the first time ever in July – but the line-up, which includes Flash, Oasish and Coldplace – is likely to look familiar to observant music fans.
The three acts, who will join a range of local bands for an afternoon and evening of entertainment, are set to take centre stage.
One of Britain’s most well known tributes to Queen, Flash, have given an insight into their fake life impersonating the legendary band as they prepare to headline the festival.
Members say it was almost inevitable they would form the act – all of them had been huge fans since they were little.
They said: “In all other groups we’ve individually been a part of over the years we’ve always, where possible, included some Queen songs.
“So taking that to the next level and solely performing Queen music was very much a natural progression and, if nothing else, just pure joy for all of us.
“Each individual member of Flash was inspired musically by their original Queen counterpart and together we all bring our abilities together to hopefully try and recreate the energy that made Queen shows so special.”
Flash will be joined by five support acts from across East Anglia – Hurricane Alley, Reno & Rome, Colourblind Hedgehogs, Cakehole Mafia and Back to the Point.
Each of the bands will play a showcase throughout the afternoon before the five main tribute acts perform.
Face painting, body art and refreshments will also be available.
The event forms part of a bumper programme coming to Ipswich this summer.
Other activities include Ipswich Music Day, open air cinema and theatre days.
The Nearly Festival – being hosted in Holywells Park – is also bringing some of the biggest tribute bands in Britain to Ipswich from June 24-25.
A teddy bear’s picnic, Indian Summer Mela, Ipswich Wheels and Ipswich Jazz Festival are also taking place in the town this summer.
