Emergency services including the air ambulance were called out to an incident in Kesgrave this afternoon.
The East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust received a call at midday today to a road off Main Road in Kesgrave, to a report of a man who had collapsed.
A rapid response vehicle, ambulance crew, ambulance officer and Essex Air Ambulance were sent to the scene.
The medics treated a man, believed to be in his 70s, who had gone into cardiac arrest.
The patient was taken by land ambulance to Ipswich Hospital in a critical condition.
