No-one has been surprised to see Suzie Lowe back at work directing this year’s Easter pantomime at the Felixstowe Spa Pavilion just weeks after becoming a mother.
With three-week old baby Mila Silver-Lowe cradled in her loving arms, Mrs Lowe, director of the Dennis Lowe Theatre Company, which was founded by her father, has embodied that famous theatre motto that the ‘show must go on’.
“There is no rest for the wicked,” the 32-year-old said.
“It is a family theatre company and to me it is important that I am involved and do as much as I can.
“I have a team of people around me, such as the technical support, but it is important to me that I keep it all ticking over and everything goes on.
“It’s my dad’s company and I want it to be as good as it can be.”
Humpty Dumpty is this year’s Easter pantomime at the Felixstowe Spa Pavilion.
The dress rehearsals have been baby Mila’s first introduction to theatre life. Has she enjoyed it?
“She loves it,” said Mrs Lowe, who commutes to Felixstowe from her family home in Hastings, East Sussex.
“She gets blurry-eyed looking at all the pretty lights, and she loves all the singing. I guess it’s from all the time in my tummy. We are a vary musical family and I was six months pregnant during the Christmas pantomime.
“Mila is just the most beautiful little baby you have ever seen in your life, but I am going to say that because she is mine.
“I reckon she is going to be a little cheeky monkey; she is very intelligent for her age, and I like that. She knows when she is being cuddled, and loves smuggles.”
When Mila is not in the arms of her mother, who writes the script and choreographs the show as well picking the music and costumes, she is being cared for by Mrs Lowe’s mother at the theatre or with her husband.
“She won’t be on stage this weekend, but maybe one day,” said Mrs Lowe, who also teaches performance arts and musical theatre across the country.
“Her dad (Mehdi Silver, 29) is also involved in the theatre (house manager at the White Rock Theatre in Hastings), so she will be brought up in it (the theatre).
“Even if it doesn’t end up as a career for her, it wouldn’t surprise me if she enjoys it as a hobby.”
