Jessie Burgess was treated to a first dance with the Mayor of Ipswich as she celebrated her 100th birthday.
The centenarian was thrown a surprise birthday bash at the Steamboat Tavern in Ipswich attended by her family, friends and Mayor Roger Fern who presented her with a special 100th birthday medal.
Jessie has had a remarkable 100 years, joining the women’s ranks of the British Army during World War Two and meeting movie stars and famous politicians when she worked at a garage in Fulham in London.
She has also given her time to the community volunteering for Meals on Wheels until she was well into her 90s.
Her friend Christine Fairweather, who has known Jessie for 15 years, said: “Her age doesn’t show at all, you wouldn’t know she is 100.
“She had a really good time and got to dance with the mayor.
“She said she really enjoyed herself. She got so many presents she doesn’t know what to do with them.”
