As the days draw out and the sun starts to shine, the Ipswich and Suffolk Indian Association (ISIA) is making preparations for its fifth annual spring-time celebration.
The Holi Festival of Colour will take place in Holywells Park in Ipswich on Saturday, April 2 between 12noon and 4.30pm and is free to attend.
Poli Mohan, of ISIA, said the traditional Hindu event, held in collaboration with Ipswich Borough Council, aimed to welcome spring and mark the new life and energy of the season.
It sees participants cover each other in bright-coloured powder.
“Although Holi has religious roots, not much religious activity is involved in its celebration,” Poli added.
“The festival of Holi can be regarded as a celebration of the colours of unity and brotherhood.
“It has traditionally been celebrated in high spirit without any distinction of cast, creed, colour, race, status or sex.
“It is one occasion when sprinkling coloured powder or coloured water thrown on each other breaks all barriers of discrimination.”
There will be a bonfire, Bollywood entertainment, Henna hand painting and Indian food stalls.
