Roll up, roll up the circus is in town - featuring a host of spectacular high-flying acrobatics, clowns, contortionists, magicians and death-defying antics.

Circus Fantastia has pitched its big top at Trinity Park in Ipswich for the very first time and will be dazzling crowds until Sunday.

Matthew Wingate, show organiser at the London-based circus, said there was something for everybody at the circus.

“We have Clown Jerry, contortionist Miss Odyss from Mongolia, bouncy juggling, hoola hoop, quick change magic and a spectacular musical dancing fountain with 2000 litres of water dancing in front of your eyes.

“We also have Simon Deville from the UK, a solo trapeze artist who does a death-defying dental spin.

“This is where his whole body weight is held by his teeth - 40ft in the air.

“There really is something for everybody.”

The circus, which is now at the end of its fourth season, also features a giant ‘wheel of death’ which Matthew describes as a huge hamster wheel suspended in the air on a long revolving spindle.

“It’s quite dangerous,” he said.

The circus put up its massive big top on Wednesday at the Suffolk Showground, something Matthew says is quite a struggle.

“It is really hard work,” he said.

“It takes about ten hours to put the tent up and everything put inside.

“We start it about nine in the morning and finish by 7pm.

“But it’s a lot easier than in the old days though with electric motors and winches.

“The tickets are selling well so hopefully we should be in for a great week.”
