Helen Green, of Hilton Road, Martlesham, pleaded guilty at South East Suffolk Magistrates’ Court to driving while above the legal alcohol limit.

Green had been driving a Honda Jazz which had collided with a Vauxhall Corsa, causing minor damage.

The Tesco worker told police she had been drinking and had been the driver of the Honda.

A subsequent blood test showed she had 126 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80mlgs.

David Stewart, representing Green, said his client was “a very pleasant and apologetic lady”.

The mother-of-one had been out drinking with friends, but was not a regular drinker.

Magistrates disqualified Green from driving for 12 months,

She was also fined £250 and ordered to pay costs of £85, as well as £30 to the victims’ fund.

The 29-year-old committed the offence on September 7 in Saxmundham Road, Aldeburgh.

A breath test showed she had 56 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35mcgs.

The court was told Youngs’ VW Polo was seen by police at 10.20pm travelling slowly in a 30mph zone.

The car was stopped and Youngs admitted she had consumed alcohol.

Asked for an explanation of why she decided to drive after drinking Youngs said “stupidity” and that she was “not thinking”.

Youngs was banned from driving for 12 months. She was also fined £400 and ordered to pay £85 costs.
