A bonanza of talent burst onto the stage at the Regent Theatre last night at the Ipswich Has Got Talent ‘champions of champions’ competition.

Solo singers, groups, dance troupes and acrobats were among the 12 acts keen to impress the star-studded panel of judges, which included Suffolk opera singer Laura Wright and Gary Avis of the Royal ballet.

It was Ipswich rapper Waltzz, also known as Liam Stewart, who came out on top - but the event’s project manager Mike Grimwood said it was a very close decision.

“To be honest I try and guess each year who I think is going to be the winner but I really couldn’t put my finger on it this year,” he said.

“I was in the judging room and two or three could have got it.”

More than 400 people turned up to cheer on the acts.

“Everyone who came said it was the best year we’ve ever had,” said Mike.

“The competition has been going on since 2009 but this time we brought back the previous finalists.

“The acts were all amazing on the night.

“They have almost become like family because they have seen each other over the years, rehearse together and support each other and that means as much as what happens on the final night.

“The actual show itself is put together by the stage guys at the Regent. They are so passionate about putting it on - they deserve an award themselves.”
