A stand-up comedian has been given a conditional discharge after he swore at a police officer who saw him urinating in the doorway of an Ipswich Labour Club.
Gregor Burns – who was drunk at the time - told Ipswich magistrates he had been angry because he had been denied access to a club when he wanted to use the toilet.
The 33-year-old admitted being drunk and disorderly when he appeared before South East Suffolk Magistrates’ Court.
The offence occurred at around 12.40am on August 7 in Silent Street.
A police officer saw the former soldier urinating.
When he spoke to Burns the comedian and writer told the officer he had not been allowed into a club because he was too drunk.
Burns added he was desperate to go to the toilet so did it in the doorway.
During the conversation Burns swore at the officer and told him to go away.
Burns, representing himself, told the court: “I was out of line. I was angry because I wasn’t allowed in to use any of the bathrooms.
“I didn’t mean to cause any trouble.”
In addition to a 12-month conditional discharge, magistrates ordered Burns, of Lincroft Crescent, Leeds, to pay costs of £85 and £20 to the victims’ fund.
