Back Hamlet in Ipswich has reopened after what was described as an “unexploded grenade” was found.
A 50 metre exclusion zone was put in place as a precaution after the discovery, by people digging and clearing land between the University Campus Suffolk North Campus and Alexandra Park, at around 3.20pm.
The object still contained the pin, according to those who found the object.
The road was closed between the junctions of Duke Street and Devonshire Road until around 5pm, while police waited for an Army Bomb Disposal Team to arrive.
A spokeswoman for Suffolk police said: “An Army Bomb Disposal Team attended the site just before 5pm and quickly determined it was not a grenade.”
